MacPower Digital Doc 5: Specifications

The Digital Doc 5.0 is a well-designed system add-on which allows you to simultaneously monitor 8 heat source/fan combinations within your computer as well as your +5 and +12 voltage. This unit was supplied by our good friends at CoolerGuys and has a retail price of $64.95. DigiDoc serves several purposes: first, it will allow you to determine at what component temperature extra cooling fans become active; second, it will automatically set off an audible alarm if the fan has been activated but the component temperature rises an additional 5 C above the activation temperature; and third, it allows you to monitor +5 and +12 system voltage. It is designed for the serious hobbyist or for applications such as servers or raid arrays where temperatures may rise significantly due to system load and require additional cooling and where immediate notification of overheating is required.

What's In The Box? The Digital Doc comes in a clear plastic blister pack. It includes the monitoring unit, which is mounted in a frame that fits into an available 5.25 inch bay. The frame also includes a mounting bracket for a 3.5 inch HDD and an integrated cooling fan for the frame unit, which also serves as a HDD cooler. Included are 8 temperature leads, 4 with flat ends that can be inserted between a component and a heatsink, 4 with beaded ends, and 8 adhesive strips. Eight 3-pin fan leads are included. The unit connects directly to a +12 power lead and contains an EEPROM chip which saves settings. Documentation is excellent, and provided in the form of a 23 page manual on disk in .pdf format, which contains both illustrations and photographs. However, there is no written documentation to assist someone with installation during a system build.
