Quality Matters - A Power Source Built to Last

Not too long ago, any old power source would do the trick. Today power sources are critical both for high performance processors like the Pentium4 and the Athlon Thunderbird and for running multiple fans to cool them. This review looks at a mid-range power source from Enermax, which was graciously provided to us by our friends at Big008.
Here are the specifications:
- Enermax Model # EG365P-VE $47.95
- Meets Intel 2.10 and 2.03 version specifications
- Enhanced +12 V Meets Pentium IV full requirements including P IV connector and aux.
- Connector Meets full AMD K7 requirements
- Dual ball bearing fans (80 mm and 92 mm)
- Fan Speed Monitor function for newer mainboards
- Temperature controlled low-noise power supply.
- 115/230 volt switchable Maximum DC Output of the +5 vsb is 2.2 Amps.

Initial Impressions
The first thing you notice is that the box is heavy and that the PS and cables are in bubble wrap. A User's Manual is also included. The ATX cable is sheathed in plastic mesh so that it will not tangle with the power leads. The power leads are 24 inches long, so reaching drives in the top or bottom of a full-tower case will not be a problem.

There is also a fan power connector for which, when attached to a motherboard fan header, allows you to monitor the RPM of the second exhaust fan in the PS. This is a nice touch. Intake fan is mounted in bottom of the power source, so that it draws heat directly from CPU are Automatic shutdown feature from overload exceeding 120-150% of the maximum rated load and when a DC output short circuit is detected.
