Review Update:
I've received excellent feedback from readers of this review and decided to provide an update to answer numerous questions...in the form of Q&A.
Q: What hardware/OS was used in the test system?
A: System information is as follows:
Q: Where did you purchase the Klipsch 5.1 system?
A: The system was ordered directly from Klipsch via their website.
Q: What were your experiences with the vendor (Klipsch)?
A: Klipsch has proven to be one of the best customer service oriented companies I have ever dealt with. Not only are customer service reps available via phone and email, but they have an extremely active online Forum available to ask questions (hardware and software related), voice concerns, and contact online customer support reps.
Q: How do the speakers perform with games?
A: The 5.1's have been used while playing Q3A and Unreal Tournament. The sound is as expected: crisp, tight, and depending on volume...breathtaking. Weapons such as the mini-gun (UT) take on a new attitude with the powerful subwoofer. The rocket launcher (both Q3A and UT) possess a distinct "punch" that was not heard on lesser speakers. UT's default Surround Sound mode did not function well, but this is due to the test system's configuration and possibly Windows 2000 issues. The speakers themselves are excellent in the gaming area--and possibly even the strongest for games out of all uses (DVD, music, etc).
Q: Is there truly "no distortion at any volume level"?
A: This may have been too optimistic of a statement in the initial
review. As far as I have been willing to turn the system volume (68 out of 80),
I have not experienced noticable distortion. It may be likely to cause
distortion with extreme music types and turning the volume to maximum...but
listeners would most likely not enjoy the extreme volume at that point due to
bleeding ears. ![]()
