Midiland 8200 5.1 DD System

-Conclusion

So, now we come to and end. All in all, I would say the only thing keeping the Midilands back is the lack of tweeters in the sats and the not so "klipsch" bass; as in, it's not as punchy. But to me, they still sound very, very nice. Since I bought them I've had the chance to pump them up when my parents were out of the house. So far, I've not gone past, probably 90%. At this volume, they didn't seem to distort much at all, if any at all. The only "distortion" I could hear could have been the bass, but it was more likely the walls,cd's, mouse etc shaking; in which case it was hard to tell. But remember this was at 90% volume with a real bass-happy song (Ex: Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo).

Also, if you hook them up digitally, you won't get the notourious "hiss" of analog speakers. Now, I'm not saying you won't get any at all; but it is MUCH less. At normal listening volume I can't even hear any hiss 'till I put my ear directly up to the speaker; and I only sit about 3 ft from 'em (the front sats anyway). When pumped to the max, it's audible. Something that I found that did help a TON was muting "CD Audio" in Play Control (double click the speaker icon in the taskbar and check "mute" under "CD Audio")

With my last speakers jacked all the way to the limit without any audio, there would be tons of hiss. It was rather distracting. With the Midilands pumped up 100% (without any audio playing again) there was audible hiss, but it was DEFINITLY much less than what I've ever experienced before with my Altecs. Theres the beaty of Digital . If I were to hook them up optically, I would be willing to bet there would be little to no audible hiss because of the better connection.

One thing I would like to add is that most reviews "cons" against the Midiland system is that the ADS-2000 should have been able to fit in a 5.5 drive bay. I find this utterly ridiculous. If this were true, you would have tons of wires running from outside of your case all the way to the inside of your case to get to the decoder PLUS it wouldn't be nearly as easy to unplug and, say, hook up the speakers in the next room, into your playstation, whatever. They are much more portable the way they are now. Not that you would lug them everwhere, but if the ADS2000 was made to fit in a 5.5 drive bay, it would basically say, to me, that these speakaers are ment for the computer; which in reality, they are geared towards the computer but can be used in many different enviorments. I'm very glad Midiland kept it this way it is now. So the bottom line. If all you do is play games and nothing else, this might be more than you need. If you do more things with your computer than play games, definitly check this system out.

Pros:

  • 5.1 DD
  • massive bass
  • has a cool (small) remote!
  • they are DIGITAL!

    Cons:

  • no tweeters in sats
  • bass could be a "boomier" (not as in louder)
