Above you see the rear of the Blitztorm, the part that shows on the back of your case. There are the fairly large enough vents to helps expel heat, and a control knob. Both fans are 70x70x15 mm and go from 1200 RPM to 4000 RPM which creates airflow from 10 to 30 CFM. Both fans are powerful enough. On full speed both seem more powerful than they are rated. That control knob works great. You can adjust it to your noise tolerance and/or airflow needed. Even on the highest setting it isn't too loud at all. No high-pitched whine. Just a soft fan-type noise. Barely audible when your case side panels are all on.
Here you see the Blitztorm installed to help cool my blazingly hot TV tuner. It can reach as high as 55c! Great thing about the front fan that blows air inside is you can adjust it to point at wherever you want. Naturally, I tilted the fan at the hot running chips on the TV tuner and at an angle that it blows the hot air towards that rear exhaust fan (click pic for more detailed view) . Therefore helping to expel that heat instead of recirculating it back into your case. That, in itself, helps to lower overall system temp.
How well does it work? Pretty darn good! Without any fan blowing air onto the tv tuner chips it gets real hot, as I had mentioned, as hot as 55c. With the Blitztorm fan blowing air onto those chips, they are barely warm to the touch even on mid level fan setting. Naturally the faster you have that fan blowing the cooler it is.
Conclusion:
AzenX has made a wonderful and unique cooling device unlike any other. Simple to install, you just push it into any pci slot (and secure it in) below any agp or pci card you want to cool. Then plug it in with its pass-through molex (so you can attach another device) . If you prefer it to help cool an onboard chipset, just aim the fan in that direction. Though it is best suited as installed in this review. Tilt the fan a bit to blow the hot air towards the rear so that exhaust fan can expel the heat created. And, it does work as advertised! You can feel that hot air coming out the rear.
Pros:
- Very simple installation
- a blowing fan you can aim about anywhere you want
- rear exhaust fan helps expel heat
- fan controller on the rear
- It works as advertised
- red light in the middle for bling bling effect
Cons:
- That red light in the middle. Not all will like that. Though if you have a side window and you find it annoying, simply cover it with black electrical tape.
- as you can see by the pics, it is rather larger than most pci cards so it needs space. Only a tiny pci card will fit beneath it. Or one that is flat on top.
