Above you see the inside of the enclosure. That cable you see that snakes along the side is for the blue led on the front that will flash just like a normal hard drive when in use. It goes around the side so the hard drive won't interfere with it because things are a tight and secure fit.

Very good and easy-to-follow instructions are included but I always like to see if I can put something together without reading any directions. And I was able to do just that. Of course afterwards I looked over the instructions just to be sure, but it was all common sense and very easy to figure out what goes where.

Installation~

First thing is to have a formatted/partitioned hard drive. You can't do that from the enclosure so you'll need to do it with your system first. Then simply attach the ide and power cables to the hard drive. Gently slide the hard drive into the enclosure leaving the control unit partially out, as you see above. Then attach that green and black wire that comes from the front LED.

Tools needed:

Once you've attached the ide and power cables to the hard drive and the led cable to the unit, slide everything fully inside the enclosure. You may need to gently nudge in one side of the unit to get it all the way in. Then use the included screws to secure the hard drive and the control unit. Amazingly most screwholes were lined up, but I did have to adjust the control unit slightly to line up with the screwholes. (*Note: the larger screws are for the hard drive, smaller ones for the control unit and back plate).

Once you have the screws in for the hard drive and unit, slide the 2 end covers in place. They are a perfect fit (see above).

Attach the back plate with the remaining small screws. That's it, hard part's over. Now wiggle your big toe and enyoy your work

Houston, we have a go...

Next thing is connecting it to your computer. First attach the power cord to the power adapter. Connect the adapter to the enclosure and plug the power cord into a receptacle. Attach the USB 2.0 cable to the enclosure, then to an open USB 2.0 port on your computer. If you have Windows XP / Win 2000 then in seconds your system should start to recognize the hard drive. It'll read the contents and a pop up will tell you your new device is installed and ready for use.

If you're using Windows 98/ME then you'll need to install the drivers from the cd. See the included instructions.

Windows will see the hard drive as it would any other hard drive and add a drive letter for it. If you've named the hard drive from a previous use then it will still be there as you can see above. Remember LeeLoo? :P
