Sunbeam has been etching themselves quite a spot in the computer modding market this last year. Here at PCA we have seen there cold cathodes, Lazer LEDS, Lighted feet, and much more. The quality of their products never disappoints us and so of the innovations and new ideas has impressed us .Crazy Pc has sent us their new Laser LED Canon to checkout. Lets open the box and start modding!

Features:

  • High brightness LED
  • Focal Beam Magnifier with removable lens
  • 200,000 hour life (22 years)
  • Adjustable translucent housing
  • swivel 360° horizontally and 180° vertically
  • Low heat output
  • Easy installation
Specifications:
  • 12 volts DC
  • Draw: 20-25mA
  • Comes with a 4pin Molex connector that hooks directly to your 12 volt power supply

Here we see the Canon comes packaged in the same reliable retail packaging we have come to expect out of a Sunbeam product. Once out of the package we examine the unit. The Led is housed in a plastic "canon" shell. It is attached to a swivel that allows it to turn almost any direction. This is very handy for custom mods, where you want to focus light in a certain direction to highlight a particular piece of hardware.

First impressions once I plugged the pass threw molex in was , holy brightness! When They say Laser LED, they are not exaggerating. For such a little unit, this thing puts out tons of light, and even better- it is rated to do so for 22 years! On the back of the package they had a couple pictures of sample applications. One was affixing the LED Canon to shine light on to your keyboard for use in the dark.

The effect was very cool, but with a product so small, so bright and so adjustable, I felt its true modding potential was being wasted on this project. Back to the drawing board.

I decided to mount the LED canon behind the front bezel of my case. With the focus lenses and the swivel action of the Canon, it was very easy to focus light to get the effect that i desired. Wow! What a cool little mod- it adds a nice finishing touch to the front of my case, and only took about five minutes to do.

Conclusion:

Another top notch modding product from Sunbeam and CrazyPC. The modding possibilities are really endless. Just use you imagination and one can think of all sorts of cool things to do with this.

Pros:

  • High Brightness
  • Low Power Draw
  • Swivel Mount
  • Pass threw Molex

Cons:

  • None
