| A Closer Look:

Inside the Icy Dock's colorful box, we can find some mounting screws and tape for the Icy Dock's temperature sensors. The Icy Dock itself, has solid construction and seems fairly promising. The first thing I noticed about the rack is its unique hard drive mounting method. Instead of using the conventional screw-in method, Cremax has come up with a faster and more efficient mounting process. Mounting the hard drive involves unscrewing one thumbscrew located at the end of an arm used to hold the hard drive in place. There are 4 rubber stands a the bottom of the rack that aligns with holes at the bottom of the hard drive. When screwing the arm back in place, the hard drive gets pushed down and the rubber stands compress to ensure a snug fit. Having those rubber stands may even help reduce noise by absorbing some of the hard drive's vibrations.

In order to help protect the hard drive, the Icy Dock comes equipped with two fans. However, only one of the fans actually spin during operation. The other fan is there for redundancy should the primary fan fail. Other than the fans, this rack also comes with a small handful of wiring. There are a couple of 4-pin power plugs to function as a pass through to other peripherals. There are also three available temperature probes. In order for the HDD activity indicator to function, there's a pass through cable provided to connect to the Icy dock display and the motherboard.
