The back of the keyboard is nothing special, as with any keyboard for that matter. But what is missing are the height adjustment feet. Those who prefer to type at an angle will have to use something underneath to accomplish that. But it does have two rubber feet and those do help to keep the keyboard from slipping around your desk.
Performance~
Ever notice how most full sized keyboards have a long keystroke? Since this is a slim keyboard, the keys are also slim in that regard. You have a short keystroke, and that in my opinion that does make for easier typing. Though it may take some getting use to.
For normal email typing and forum messaging I found the EluminX a breeze to use. I've never been a great typist but my typing speed seems increased with the EluminX. And when pressing the keys they have a soft and smooth feel and give off a faint tactile click.
For games, it works great. The normal gaming keys are easy to access and since there is some seperation it's easier to not hit the wrong key. And for gaming most of you game in the dark, so with the illuminated keys you can find the special keys all that much easier and quicker. *More frags ;)
Pros~
- Easy to read in the dark
- Short keystrokes
- Slim Design
- Light does go off after 15 minutes of inactivity
- Has the look and feel of quality
- The illumination is just right, not too bright
Cons~
- No on/off button
- No height adjustment
- It ain't cheap
Final thoughts~
It could use an on/off switch and height adjustment. Though it does auto shut off the illumination after 15 minutes of inactivity and comes back on with a simple strike of "anykey" or a movement of a ps2 mouse.
The EluminX Illuminated keyboard has the feel and look of quality. It does not feel or look cheap at all. With the illuminated keys it helps to make life so much easier for us computer enthusiasts because many of us prefer to use our PC in a dark or dimly lit environment. And with the EluminX keyboard we can now "see the light"!
As for the $99.95 price, that is something that is up to the individual to decide if it is worth it to them. It is higher than most keyboards but you do get something that is very rare and useful. Having the illuminated keys does help a lot in typing in darker rooms. And heck, it looks cool too.
Many thanks goes out to the good people at EluminX for making this review possible. In talking with them I was impressed with how professional and friendly they were.
