Looking inside the Power supply, Enermaxs quality really shines through. The quality of workmanship and sound engineering is very apparent. All soldier points are discreet. All connections are clean. High quality mosfets , caps and heat sinks throughout the entire board. The fan layout (AMD Recommended) allows unrestricted airflow across the heat sinks. What does this equal? One cool unit!

Load Testing:

Our Load test were conducted ripping dvd, running prime 95 and Running Yeti studios Gunnmetal 2 Benchmark all consecutively. We did this to put a full load on the cpu, ram, video card, optical, and hard drives all at the same time. Theses devices will all be demanding power from the PSU and will put it through its paces.

Test System:

  • P4 2.0 @2505
  • 1 gig ram
  • 120 gig and 80 gig hard drives
  • CD and DVD Burner
  • Radeon 9800 pro @ 428 core clock
  • 2 cold cathodes
  • 9 system fans

Due to motherboards and monitoring programs sometimes giving inaccurate data, I used a multi meter to measure all results. This way we ensure accurate numbers.

Idle voltages were a respectable 12.22, 5.18 and 3.22. These are well within tolerance. Now lets crank this baby up!

When put under a huge load, the Noisetaker 425 really put out. We saw slightly increased voltages on the 12volt and 3.3 volt rails. We saw a slight decrease on the 5 volt rail, but it was still above 5 volts. This power supply never fell below spec, in fact it always performed above what it was rated at- just awesome. This power supply is a rock!

The concept of the dual 12volt rails intrigued me. Enermax designed it for stability, and it had already had proven that to me. Could it be useful for anything else? I decided to see if the dual 12 volt rails could add some headroom to my overclocking. I had been stuck at the 2500 barrier for the last 6 months. Nothing I did to tweak the system could get her flying any higher. With a little bios tweaking and 4 reboots later, I had my cpu running at 2700! That's almost a 10% extra overclock, just by using a different PSU.

Conclusion:

Enermax has a solid product here. In fact I have never been more impressed by a PSU to date. It looks great, and all the special features it has makes it a solid investment to systems to come. Plenty of juice, connections, stability and style. What else could one want?

Pros:

  • Quiet self adjusting fans
  • Dual 12volt rails
  • Lots of Connectors
  • Sata ready
  • Fans run for 2 minutes after shutdown, helping to cool your system off
  • High quality inside and out
  • Good looks
  • Dual fans, including the bottom 92mm

Cons:

  • None

Thank you Enermax for making such a solid PSU. And a special PCA thank you goes out to the good people at MAXPOINT who made this review possible. This PSU has won our highest award.
