How will I test this Enermax Power Supplly, let me count the ways. Surfing the net doesn't do much to stress a power supply but running prime 95, 3DMark 2001 and the latest games like Need For Speed; Hot Pursuit 2 will stress it and let us know what the bad boy is made of. Adding to this test is my normal components, which may be more than what many of you have. Or maybe not, but here is what I have:
Relevant System Specs:
- Blue Meany case
- Gigabyte Ga-7VRX
- Amd XP 2000+
- 512mb Crucial pc2100 DDR
- WD 120gb 8mb cache SE 7200rpm hard drive
- Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm
- Lite On 16X DVD Drive
- Lite On 24X CDRW
- Radeon 8500LE 128mb
- Fortissmo III
I'm not done yet,
- A Total of 8 80mm fans, including one on the heatsink. 4 of these fans are Antec Blue LED fans
- 2 cold cathodes
- A new lighted ata133 cable
- A 6 port baybus
- Vantec Nexus controlling the cpu fan
What does all of that add up to in power usage I have no idea, but it's a lot wouldn't you agree. In a good dependable power supply what we all want and need is one that stays within 5% of the +5v line. Anything less could lead to system instability. Results will vary depending on your system of course.
Below on the left there is a a screen shot of motherboard monitor showing how the power supply does idle or surfing the net. 4.93 is excellent considering all the toys I have in my system. Many times it shows 4.96, but 4.93 is pretty much the average. On the right is after running the prime95 cpu torture test after 45 minutes. 4.88 is once again excellent! Now what I cannot show you are the results after running the 3DMark 2001 test. I ran that test 4 times and each time It showed 4.80 under the +5, but it quickly shot back up to 4.91. Which is why I couldn't get an acurate screen shot. When I hit print screen, it already had changed to 4.91 or 4.93. Same thing happens after playing NFS: HP2. *btw, disregard the cpu usage, mobo monitor will not read cpu usage from this mobo.
