Introduction:

For the avid PC builder, a good power supply is key to a successful system. As AMD and Intel continue to ramp up their clock speeds, the need for power supplies that can meet the demands of such powerful systems also grow. If someone asked me how big a power supply should they have gotten a couple of years ago, I'd have recommended something between the 300w - 350w range. However, progress today demands more than a mere 300w to power a computer. Should someone ask me what they would need to get a system up and running now, I'd have to recommend somewhere between 400w - 500w.

With the realization that there is a rather large demand for power supplies, it can be quite a task to shop for the right brand. There are some semi-generic brands such as Deer or Sparkle. There are more well known brands such as Antec or Enermax. There are those that have just started to dip their toes into the power supply market such as Vantec. Finally there are the smaller newcomers such as KingWin.

KingWin, although not yet a household name in power supplies, have been in the computer industry since 1992. Since its early beginning in Tawain and China, KingWin has managed to expand their operations to the US. KingWin has, in the past, produced solutions for OEMs and ODMs. Recently, they have begun to market products under their own brand. Today we will take a look at KingWin's KWI-450w power supply. Although KingWin has a relatively short track record and is not yet a household name, the power supply that we're about to review has some interesting features that helps set it apart.
