The fine people at XtracPads.com sent me
an X Trac Pro HS optical mouse pad to try out. I always thought that a mouse pad
was . . .well, a mouse pad. The X Trac Pro HS arrived in a Priority mailing box
and wrapped with a sheet of bubble wrap. Well packaged to prevent shipping
damages. The pad looked like an oversized mouse pad with a black and white
honeycomb design. The surface of the X Trac Pro HS is hard and very lightly
textured. The black and white design prevents mouse cursor jitter. The pad
measures 93.5 square inches (8.5" x 11"), plenty of gaming room.

The bottom side of the pad is made with
Sure Grip™ rubber backing. Highly textured for a non slip grip, a must for heavy
mouse movements while gaming. I have owned several different cloth covered mouse
pads and none of them come close to the quality of the Sure Grip™ rubber
backing. Below is a close up of the X Trac Pro HS rubber backing.

Installation was a breeze ! No wires, no
thermal compound and no screws ! Just toss the old mouse pad in the trash and
place the X Trac Pro HS on the desk.

Once the X Trac Pro HS was successfully
installed, I fired up UT2K3 for a short round of CTF. Talk about smooth ! Mouse
movements seemed to be crisp and precise. The larger surface area is a nice
upgrade over the old pad. After several days of use, the X Trac Pro HS has
proven to be a big
improvement over the old cloth mouse pad. If it gets dirty, simply wash it off
with a wet cloth or window cleaner spray. A list of vendors is available
at XtracPads.com . I
give the X Trac Pro HS a solid 9 on a scale of 1 to 10.
