Included with the Zonet router is everything you need to get started. You get the router, power supply, cable to connect one system, instructions and screws if you wish to place the router on a wall. You also get 4 stick-on rubber feet to place on each of the four corners. That is great to prevent scratches if you place the router on a pc or other sensitive surfaces. Plus it elevates the router slightly to help keep it cool. If you wish to connect other systems, then you'll need to supply the cables.

This is my first router so we'll see if it is easy or not to get everything going. With the cable modem and the router unplugged, I connected the modem to the WAN port on the router. Then connected my system to port one. plugged in the modem, then the router. Once the router comes on it goes through a series of self-tests.

Your system must have TCP/IP protocol installed, and under network properties "obtain an ip address automatically" must be selected. Type in the ip address in the manual at the location box of your browser and click enter. You'll get this screen:

Enter the information to sign in from the manual and then you get to the main menu:

Here is where you set everything up. Just follow the easy instructions from the manual. Believe me, it is very easy and the instructions are easy to follow. You can change the password to whatever you want and I suggest that to be the first thing you do.

Once I got that part all set up, I was on the net. I then connected two other systems and they also were on the net. It was all very easy. And again, this is coming from a first-timer. I was expecting major problems, but didn't encounter any.

The leds on the front show when you are conected and any other systems that are connected to the router and if they are working or not.

Final Thoughts~

I have to say, this was much easier than I had expected. Installing the router took about 5 minutes and once it all was plugged in, it was just a matter of configuring it all. Following the instructions from the easy-to-follow manual, it was very easy. Why can't everything be this smooth?

This Zonet router is very well contructed. It is encased in metal, not plastic. And with the rubber feet you don't have to worry about scratching any surface with it when you move it around, or it gets moved around accidently. It also gets only mildly warm, never hot. And for a retail price of just $45, you can't go wrong.

Pros~Cons~
