A Closer Look

As you can see the Senfu not only is packaged in the nice sturdy plasitic box with about 3/8 inches of foam at the bottom but also included is a small reversable screwdriver, heatsink compound and instructions on how to attach a temp sensor showing the correct and wrong way.

Taken apart you can see it has 6 parts. Unlike most heatsinks the Senfu uses 2 clips to keep the fan on. Since it has what I call a "lawnmower" fan I always like to replace them with a far quieter fan off a thermaltake volcano II to see any temp difference. I learned the hard way how important the clips are along with that fan grill. When I replaced the included fan with the quieter vII fan I had one heck of a time getting the clips to secure the fan. But duh! I didn't use the fan guard and it is necessary along with the screws to get the extra height so the clips secure whichever fan you use. And be careful with those springy clips. I reached for one rather quickly without really looking and it flew across the room. Yes it was sure fun trying to find that lil thang.

Why don't all heavy heatsinks have a 3 prong clip? Can anyone tell me why? What, to save a few pennies I suppose. But as you can see the Senfu does have those 3 prongs for a good, secure fit on any motherboard. Also notice the slot for the included screwdriver to help install it. Frankly I thought the included screwdriver was too small to get a good grip so I used another slightly larger one and installing this puppie was really as easy as cake. Just one try and you easily glide it over those 3 motherboard catches. I wish all were this easy.

The above pic shows where the sensor goes. The included directions shows an incorrect and a correct way but the one illustration in the directions is different than what I received. As you can see it has the end tapered down to the sensor size so you cannot install it the wrong way while in the directions it didn't have that tapered part. The wrong way just had the button over the end of the sensor. Perhaps they added this in their later versions.
