Putting it to
the test:
Test rig specs
Pentium 4 2.0@ 2500 1.75
Geforce 4 TI4200@4600
1 gig ddr
2 optical drives
2 Hard drives
8 fans and 2 cold cathodes
Time to test the performance of the PSU.
At an idle the voltages were relatively normal. 3.3 rail stayed with
the 5 volt rail at 5.03 and the 12 volt rail at 11.98. To put the system
under a load I ran folding@home and watched a DVD to get the optical
drives and hard disks spining. Under heavy load the 5 volt and 12 volt
rail fluctuated about 6%, with the 3.3 staying solid as a rock. I thought
that was a pretty decent load a mere 360 watt PSU went threw. Fluctuations
are more then some more expensive PSU's, but are still very within tolerated
specs.
Conclusion:
The Silverstone ST-360 is a very solid buy
for a mid level PSU. Its built well and does what it was built to do-
run your system while maintaining the lowest possible sound level. It
looks great performs well. For higher end systems such as those which
have a higher power consuming video card-I would recommend their 400
watt and up models.
Pros:
- Good looking
- Quiet
- Flexo wrapped wires
- SATA Support
- Efficient
Cons:
A big thank you goes out to the people at SilverStone
Technologies for sending us this fine PSU to review.
