The cathode kit includes 2 zip ties and 2 mounting feet, as seen above. The mounting feet have adhesive tape on the side touching the case and the zip ties hold the tube to the feet. The 12V inverter is also shown above, which is mounted anywhere in the case you choose with the included 80mm Velcro strip (also with adhesive on one side for convenience). The inverter leads to a 4-pin Molex power connector and a round two-position in-line switch. The switch may be installed in the front of your case for ease of turning the tube on/off, but I chose to simply leave it on, so the switch was left inside the case.
Also note the inverter(top pic). With it you can add a second cathode. So all you have to buy is just a cathode which SVC sells for $5.99-$6.99. Have one at the top and bottom of your case for extreme lighting!
The tube in action...

I must admit the tube alone has a dramatic affect on the appearance of the case!
Performance:
The 80mm LED fan performs well, being a quiet 28.3 dB and running at 2500 rpm. The fan worked in conjunction with two other 80mm exhaust fans to keep my case at a respectable 21.0C (room temperature of 21.5C). The ball bearing assembly appears solid and is rated for 40,000 hours of runtime.
The cold cathode added no appreciable heat to the case temperature, while yielding an extremely bright light source. It was so bright that I chose to mount it as close to the side of the case as possible to avoid the tube itself from showing through my soon-to-installed window.
Pros:
- Easy way to add style to any case
- Quality design
- All-in-one installation kits for each product
- Can add a second cathode with the dual use inverter
Cons:
- Fan wires are not braided like some brands
- Installation may lead to friend envy and addiction to case modding (trust me, I know!)
Overall:
These two products from SVC are a perfect way to start or add to your case modding hobby. The fan serves a dual purpose of cooling functionality and eye-catching appearance. The cold cathode provides only one thing: great lighting to show off the pc you worked so hard to build. Thanks goes out to SVC for providing the products for review.
