Thermaltake Golden Orb II

For testing I used the previously mentioned Aopen n250-FR motherboard and a AMD 64 3400+ socket 754. Testing was done when the temp here was hot, mid-90's and humid. I tested the temp with 2 different room temps. Ambient (room temp) does effect cpu temp so please take this into consideration.

As you can see the Golden Orb II looks great if you have a side case window. The fan is lit in a soft blue which shows really well at night. Not a too-bright annoying glow like what some of those LED fans emit, just a soft tint of blue.

TESTING:

For idle temp I let the system settle for around an hour while I surfed the net off and on. For load temp I ran folding@home for at least an hour.

Room Temp 75 degrees F: Idle and net surfing the cpu was at 84F or 29C. Load temp was 107F or 42C.

Room Temp 80-82 degrees F: Idle/net surfing temp was 91-95F, or 33-35C. Load temp after an hour and more in this hot room the temp was 116-120F, or 47-49C.

In the heat of summer and in a warm to very hot room, the Golden Orb II earned it's stripes! It cools the cpu to well within and under the limits. Past 60-70C, I'd be calling 911. And the Orb II accomplishes this with silence. You have to place your ear near it to hear anything. Needless to say that with your case closed, you'll never hear the fan running on the Orb II.

Conclusion:

Thermaltake has a winner in their new Golden Orb II. Not really meant for overclocking since todays processors are fast enough for most of us. It cools the cpu and does so very well. And, in silence! And as has always been the usual with Thermaltake, the Golden Orb II has cool looks with the soft blue glow and the heatsink design.

I cannot say anything really bad about the Orb II other than its weight. Again though, with todays mounting the weight shouldn't be a problem. A big thank you goes out to the friendly chaps at Thermaltake for making this review possible.
