Now you know all about the TrueBlue480, so how does it actually perform? On the box is says: "The new standard in silence and PERFORMANCE". If it does what the specs say this should be one of the very best of the best.
Relevant System Specs:
- Blue Meany case
- Gigabyte Ga-7VRX
- Amd XP 2000+
- 768mb Crucial pc2100 DDR
- WD 120gb 8mb cache SE 7200rpm hard drive
- Seagate 80gb 7200rpm
- Lite On 16X DVD Drive
- Lite On 24X CDRW
- Radeon 8500LE 128mb
- Fortissmo III sound card
- A Total of 9 80mm fans, including one on the heatsink. 4 of these fans are Antec Blue LED fans
- 2 cold cathodes
- A 6 port baybus
- Vantec Nexus controlling the cpu fan
Default voltages are with the system idle or net surfing. I ran the prime95 cpu torture test for 45 minutes to get the load results for the +5v line, the main one that interests us system builders and overclockers.

I tried hard to get the +5v line lower but no matter what I tried it would not get below 5. I checked it with both motherboard monitor and sandra pro. Not only did I run the prime95 cpu torture test I also tested it with newer games like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and the +5v line never went below 5. We want it to be within 5% for best system stability and this was right-on flat out as perfect as a power supply can be!
Final Thoughts and Conclusion~
Antec advertises the TruePower line of power supplies as a the standard for silence and performance and they have succeeded! Not only is this TrueBlue480 quiet and a great performer it also will add to the esthetics of your system with the blue led lights which emit a soft blue glow from the fan enclosures. This power supply is virtually silent and you will have to place your ears close to it to hear it. Then considering the two "fan only" connectors you can make other noisy fans in your case silent too. And what can be said about the dedicated output circuitry for each voltage output. ALL power supplies SHOULD have this.
Pros~
- It really is silent
- performance is the best of any I have ever used
- dedicated output circuitry
- gold-plated connectors
- has two fans and each with a gold colored grill
- power cord is braided
- lines are long enough so it will also be good for larger cases
- two blue leds behind each fan
Cons~
- since it is quiet, the air coming from the power supply is always hot. a manual override would have been a nice addition
Actually, I really cannot think of anything bad about the Trueblue480 aside from having a manual override for the fans would have been great. Our noise tolerance is usually different and it would still be quiet to me if the fans spun a bit faster while coooling the power supply a bit better in the process. Still, it performs better than any power supply I have ever used. It is very quiet, looks good and the performance is no doubt here.
Many thanks to the very nice and patient people at Antec for supplying the TrueBlue480 for this review. Direct Link to the trueBlue480. All things considered the TrueBlue480 has earned our:
