The above simple looking device is what you use to install either heatsink. It's called a "Clip Mate". Basically metal shaped with a handle and which has a simple but small round end that fits into a hole in the clip. As you can see by the picture below the clips have notches extending out and that's the part you simply drop into the heatsink. It might take a few tries, at least it did me. All those fins cornfused me, but really it is very easy. Several ways one can install these heatsinks and each are no trouble at all. Easiest way I tried was I already had dropped the clip down the heatsink, held one end and attached that over the rear motherboard catch, lowered the heatsink on the cpu, then used the "Clip Mate" to guide the front clip on the front catch. *It should be noted that both heatsinks come with an extra clip.

Below you can see how it all looks when installed, fan and all. It's all very easy and actually since it is different than the normal heatsink install, it was kind of fun. After installing the heatsink you attach the fan bracket to the case where pci devices connect. I found it best to have the fan already attached before screwing the bracket to the case. Then you can adjust where to connect the bracket and so that the fan is aligned over the heatsink the way you prefer. Once the bracket is secure you can loosen the fan (no tools required) and do further adjusting so it's centered over the heatsink. And since this is a giant 92mm fan, it does overhang and that helps to cool the motherboard chipset and other components close by. Just a nice added bonus.

That black thing hanging down to the far right is the "Fan Mate" which only the 6000cu has. It has a small knob that controls the fans two speeds, normal and noiseless (or high and low speed). The 3100+ has a noiseless connector (RC56) that you fit between the fan and the motherboard for "noiseless" mode. So you cannot change fan speeds on the 3100+ unless you turn the system off and use that RC56 device. Without that device the fan runs on "normal mode" or high speed. With it then it runs in "silent mode" or low speed.
