Zalman ZM80A-HP

The original ATI HSF must be removed before installing the ZM80A-HP. Simply remove the spring loaded retainers and gently remove the original HSF. The core will have a thermal pad stuck on it and it must also be removed. I found that a razor blade worked best to remove the pad from the core. After removing the thermal pad, I used Goof Off to clean the remaining pieces off of the core.

Next comes the thermal paste application to the core. Apply the paste as shown in the manual. The front side heatsink base assembly for the ATI GPU is next. As you can see from the picture below, the base is made to fit without removing the protective shim from the ATI GPU. Mount the block onto the GPU with the required mounting hardware.

Now, on to the back side. Use the matching back side heatsink base and apply the protective sticker to the bottom side of the block. Mount the block with the required hardware

Time for more thermal paste. Apply the paste per instructions on the front and back bases. Slip the heatpipe in the grooves, apply more thermal paste and it's time to mount the two main heatsinks. Thermal paste also goes on the main heatsinks in the groove that contacts the heatpipe. Mount the heatsinks with the supplied screw and you then have an ATI sandwich. :D

The pictures below show the various stages of the install.

On to the final stage.
